Join us for an exciting community project in the lead-up to this year’s festival, a creative walking trail celebrating Grimsby’s rich fishing heritage through art, storytelling, and hands-on craft.
We’ll be preparing 20 handcrafted trawler boats, each with up to two individually made sails, to be displayed across town – from the Fishing Heritage Centre to Grimsby Minster. Every boat will proudly display a Grimsby trawler number, forming a trail through local shops, venues, and public spaces.
The Trail
The trail map will be available at activity tables and participating venues. The boats will be placed across Grimsby during the week before the event and may remain on display afterward, depending on leaflet availability.
This project blends traditional maritime crafts with modern community engagement, bringing together people of all ages to celebrate Grimsby’s proud fishing legacy – through sails, stitches, and stories. We’re inviting the public to join a series of creative, hands-on workshops to help make this trail come to life.
These sessions will focus on:
Sail making from fabric scraps
Embroidered logos of local businesses or landmarks, using embroidery hoops
Leaflet preparation and trail planning
Map printing and distribution
Boat placement
Key Workshop Dates:
Monday 9th June
Tuesday 10th June
Thursday 13th June
Workshops will be held at locations including STEM PUNX, The Barge, and a full-day session at Quest, involving local community groups such as home-educated children, creatives, a Viking reenactment group, and local fishermen.

Don’t forget that Stem Punx are running an Origami Boats Workshop on the day of the Festival as well!
